My 8-year-old son attends a private school here in Sandy UT.   Over the last couple of months he's been giving us all kinds of tidbits about what the other kids in school think about the candidates.  Now, I shouldn't be shocked, it's a private school; most of the families are extremely well off.   But 8 year olds?  Presidential candidates?  WTF?  I couldn't even tell you who was president when I was 8...  (Well, that's not true, I do know how to use Wikipedia...  I'll totally look it up later...  nah, too lazy... don't care).

Anyhow, it started a couple of weeks ago.  Phoenix obviously has heard Brandy and I talking about Obama and our hopes for his success.  He came home to tell us that one of his friends (I'm not making this up) told him that if Obama wins, kids will have to go to school all through summer.  Yes, Obama will force kids to go to school all summer (the bastard).    Who's ass did that little fucker pull that out of?  OK, to be honest, that's pretty innocuous, I suppose, obviously it's ridiculous.

A few days later, Phoenix tells us that another of his friends told him that if Obama is elected, slavery will come back.  Kinda weird, but then again, these guys are 7 and 8.   I can only assume that the slavery implications would be for white people...  Then again, how can you really get to the bottom of a child's argument, maybe they'll just enslave the homeless, who knows?

Today, another of his friends explained to Phoenix that Obama is a Terrorist and a Liar.   Now, this accusation is from the mainstream right wing.  This has been parroted over and over again by the uneducated.  I'm actually kinda shocked that this would come from a young child.  These kid's parents are supposed to be successful, affluent individuals (educated).  Then again, based on the affluence, they usually swing to the right.  So, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.  I'm not sure if I should be proud of the kids for being involved in the political spectrum, or shocked at the parent's willingness to tell their children such obvious fabrications.

Here's looking forward to November 4th, and an end to the craziness, at least for 4 more years.

Obama '08!!!
